Luxury Surabaya Escape: Stunning 3BR Lagoon View Villa! - Honestly, My Take (Because Let's Face It, You Want the Real Deal)
Okay, buckle up, buttercups. Because you’re not getting some polished, PR-approved brochure here. You’re getting me. I've just spent a week at the Luxury Surabaya Escape: Stunning 3BR Lagoon View Villa! and, well, let’s just say I have opinions. And, spoiler alert: they're mostly good.
So, yeah, Accessibility. Now, I'm lucky enough not to need super-specific accessibility features, but I did take a look. The website's a little vague (which, honestly, I'm getting used to), but I saw an elevator. So, good start. Hopefully, they've got things dialed-in for wheelchair accessibility, though I'd recommend calling ahead to confirm the details specific to your needs – always a good idea, right?
On-site accessible restaurants/lounges? Hmm, good point. I spent most of my time in the villa, which…was the point. There ARE restaurants, a poolside bar, a coffee shop (thank the heavens!), and a proper bar. I didn't see any glaringly obvious ADA-specific stuff, but again, call. Better safe than sorry.
Wheelchair Accessible? See above. Gotta reach out to the villa directly.
Right, let's move on to the good stuff: Internet, Internet [LAN], Internet services, and Wi-Fi. Look, in this day and age, if you're not connected, you're basically living in the Stone Age. Good news: Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! I was on conference calls, streaming movies, the whole shebang. No problems. And a bonus: Internet access – LAN. If you're one of those nerds who needs a wired connection (I get it, sometimes you just gotta) then you're covered.
Things to Do, Ways to Relax… Oh, Baby, We're Talking Pampering!
Okay, can we talk about the Spa? Seriously, the Spa. I’m usually a "curl up with a book" girl, but, fine, I got talked into it. And…wow. The massage nearly melted me. I’m not even kidding. I got the body scrub (you know, the one that gets rid of all your dead skin and makes you feel like a newborn baby?) and the body wrap. Pure luxury. Afterwards, I was practically floating. They have a sauna, a steamroom, and a foot bath. I didn't have time for the gym, but hey, more power to you if you do. And the pool with view? Forget about it. Seriously, just forget about everything else. It's that good.
The Swimming pool [outdoor] is HUGE. And let’s not forget the Swimming pool, in general, also.
Cleanliness and Safety – Because, Let’s Be Honest, We All Worry About That Stuff
Look, the whole pandemic thing has made us all a little… paranoid. I was thrilled to see they're taking things seriously. Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Individually-wrapped food options (because, you know, sometimes you just need a little something, something), Physical distancing of at least 1 meter, Professional-grade sanitizing services, Rooms sanitized between stays, Safe dining setup, and Sanitized kitchen and tableware items. They even removed Shared stationery. Honestly, it felt reassuring. And the staff trained in safety protocol seemed genuinely invested. They have Hotel Chain and all that.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking – Fueling the Fun!
Okay, the food was… a mixed bag. The Asian breakfast was pretty darn delicious. They do Asian cuisine in restaurant, but mostly I liked the Western breakfast. They also had a Western cuisine in restaurant. They have a Buffet in restaurant, and it was pretty good. The Poolside bar was a lifesaver. Coffee/tea in restaurant was constant, so I was very happy. I'm not a huge fan of soup so I can't speak to that, but the salads were fresh. The desserts, though? Chef's kiss. The Snack bar was where it's at, especially after a swim.
Services and Conveniences – The Little Things That Matter
Now, the list is long, and I wasn't using everything, but it's all there, so let's just hit the highlights: Air conditioning (essential!), Air conditioning in public area (also essential!), Daily housekeeping, Dry cleaning, Elevator, Laundry service, Luggage storage, Safety deposit boxes (always a good idea), Concierge (helpful!), Currency exchange (handy), and the Room service [24-hour] (because sometimes, you just need a midnight snack). They have Car park [free of charge] and Car park [on-site] which is great. They also have Car power charging station, what a great thing! And… is that a convenience store? YES!
For the Kids?
Didn't have any kids with me, but I saw some Family/child friendly stuff. They have Babysitting service and Kids meal which is a huge plus. If you need something for your kids, that is.

Unbelievable Kuala Lumpur Homestay: Fiqa De'Vista's Hidden Gem!
Okay, buckle up, buttercups! Because this isn't just an itinerary, it's a vibe. And this vibe is fueled by a slightly chaotic, caffeine-dependent human, about to experience Surabaya, Indonesia, from the elegant (allegedly!) confines of a 3BR at Grand Sungkono Lagoon by Travelio. Here we go…
Surabaya: Operation "Get Lost (and Hopefully Find Myself)" - A Messy Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & The Great Luggage Debacle (aka, Welcome to Surabaya!)
- 8:00 AM (ish) - Jakarta Airport Chaos: Okay, so I thought I had planned this perfectly. Non-stop flight, arriving in Surabaya, ready for a relaxing… HA! Turns out, my meticulously packed suitcase decided to take an unscheduled detour to… well, somewhere. Possibly Borneo. Currently sweating buckets and communicating primarily through frantic hand gestures with the airline staff. They smile a lot, which is either incredibly helpful or a sign they understand nothing.
- 10:00 AM (ish) - Arrival at Grand Sungkono Lagoon: Finally, after what felt like a lifetime (and a brief, but intense, negotiation with a taxi driver about his perception of “reasonable” price – I swear, this city is already testing me!), I arrive. The lagoon looks… well, lagoon-y. The lobby is surprisingly sleek! Think minimalist chic meets Indonesian charm. The Travelio check-in is seamless, which is a huge relief after the luggage fiasco. Fingers crossed the apartment lives up to the photos…
- 10:30 AM - Apartment Reveal: Whoaaa. Okay, this 3BR is actually pretty damn nice. Okay, MORE than pretty damn nice. It's got that "I could totally live here" vibe. The view from the balcony is… stunning. Skyscrapers, city hum, and a glimmering (yes, glimmering) lagoon. Victory! The air conditioning is already blasting, which is a godsend. Now, where's the wifi password? (Priorities, people!)
- 11:30 AM – The Great Indonesian Grocery Raid (and my first existential crisis): Okay, so my luggage is MIA, which means I’m living on the bare minimum. Time for a grocery run! I decide to walk to the nearby supermarket. Surabaya, you are HOT. Like, soul-meltingly hot. Found the market. Navigating the aisles is a linguistic adventure. I somehow manage to acquire some instant noodles (a backpacking staple), some suspiciously bright orange juice, and a mango that I swear winked at me. I realize a few things about the way I'm approaching this: 1. I'm going to need more insect repellent than I initially thought. 2. I am terribly awkward at doing seemingly simple things. 3. My feet are probably not made for these sandals.
- 1:00 PM – First Meal: Noodle Nirvana (and Near-Disaster): Back at the apartment, I attempt to cook the instant noodles. My culinary skills are, let's just say, developing. The noodles are… edible. The mango, however, is a revelation. Sweet, juicy, and utterly delicious. I may or may not have devoured the entire thing in approximately 3.7 seconds. In my bliss, I almost set the kitchen on fire (minor incident involving distracted me.)
- 2:00 PM – Settling In… and the Longest Nap Ever: Jetlag is hitting like a ton of bricks. Collapse on the bed. Wake up… several hours later. Disoriented. Sun starting to set. Still no luggage. Starting to think perhaps it did make it to Borneo.
- 7:00 PM – Dinner (or, the Quest for Something Besides Noodles): Decide to be adventurous and order from a local restaurant via a delivery app. Attempt to decipher the menu. Choose something that sounds vaguely familiar. Hope I don’t get poisoned.
- 8:00 PM – Dinner… and, the Verdict: The food arrives. My gamble pays off! It’s delicious. Spicy, flavorful, and exactly what I needed. Feel reinvigorated!
- 9:00 PM – Planning (or, the illusion of control): I make a shaky outline of what to do with the rest of my time. This is mostly to make it seem as if there's a plan, when I know it's going to inevitably go off the rails.
- 10:00 PM – Zzzzzzzz… (Probably, if the jet lag lets me.)
Day 2: Exploring, Exploring… and More Exploring! Then, the Reality Check.
- 8:00 AM – Wake Up (Feeling Slightly Less Disoriented): Made it through the night! The air conditioning did its job. Feeling slightly less like a zombie.
- 9:00 AM – Breakfast and the Morning Dilemma: Wake up determined to locate a western breakfast. Try out the hotel's restaurant (which is located at the bottom of the grand building). It’s pretty, but the American breakfast is a pale imitation of the real thing. More importantly, I need to decide and find something to do.
- 10:00 AM – Housekeeping! And the Second Reality Check: I'm not sure why I thought this would be a good idea. I had a plan to explore the city, or at least a small part of it. I was going to visit the House of Sampoerna, and then head to the zoo. I was going to do research and try to figure out how to use public transportation, and get a few local snacks along the way. It sounds so good but it's so much harder than I thought. The House of Sampoerna might have to wait until tomorrow. The zoo, too. Instead, I'm going to order some more food, sit in the apartment, and try to work out how to live comfortably.
- 1:00 PM – Lunch and the Ineluctable Truth: The food arrives. The apartment is quite good. I'm going to spend the afternoon reading, and maybe take a nap later.
- 7:00 PM - Dinner and Some Contemplation I ponder the nature of travel and what it means to fully experience a place. I decide to go to bed early.
Day 3 and Onward: The Unfolding of Chaos (and Hopefully, Redemption!)
- The Plan (loosely): Visit a local market (I'm finally going to try to haggle!), explore the colorful Chinatown, maybe attempt a cooking class (wish me luck!), and definitely try to track down my luggage (still holding out hope!).
- The Reality (probably): More wandering. More delicious (and probably questionable) street food. More near-disasters. More moments of pure, unadulterated joy. More unexpected encounters. More… me.
- Expectations (low): I'll get lost. I'll get confused. I'll probably embarrass myself at least a dozen times.
- Hopes (high): I'll fall in love with Surabaya. I'll learn something new about myself. And, most importantly, I’ll eventually get my damn suitcase back. And honestly, I can live with the chaos. Because that, friends, is the real adventure, isn't it?
- So, stay tuned. Because this is going to be… interesting. And remember, this is just a guide. My real travel plan is to have no plan!
